Robert Irvine to Return to Food Network's Dinner: Impossible
Robert Irvine is returning to the Food Network's Dinner: Impossible show Production of six new episodes starring Irvine will begin this month and air in March, 2009. Irvine's impossible chef missions for the Food Network had been popular but he was not on signed on for more episodes of the show after it was discovered that he had spiced up his resume. The Food Network now wants Irvine back.
"Our audience has continued to demonstrate its interest in and support for Robert," Welch said. "He has taken responsibility and made a conscious effort to clear the air, rebuild the relationship with Food Network and apologize for the earlier inaccuracies."
Irvine had hosted the show for four seasons. The network in March said it would revisit its decision not to renew his contract at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Food Network Iron Chef Michael Symon filled in for Irvine, taping 10 hour-long episodes.
"I am very excited to continue taping more episodes of 'Dinner: Impossible'," Irvine said in a written statement. "I am thrilled to further my relationship with the network and embark on more challenging episodes of this popular series."
The Dinner: Impossible shows with Robert Irvine as the Chef were terrific episodes. We can understand why Food Network wants to bring Irvine back despite his embellished resume. Michael Symon has been the host of Dinner: Impossible in Irvine's absence.

Recession Means Deep Discounts Online The recession has retailers doing everything they can to lure shoppers to buy this holiday season. The discounts online are already the deepest they've ever been in the history of online shopping. As stores compete for customers, the prices keep dropping.
As deserted malls and department stores struggle to court cash-short consumers with steep discounts this holiday season, a similar and even more ferocious price war is being waged online.
Internet retailers, trying to navigate what is shaping up to be the first truly dreary holiday shopping season ever on the Web, are engaging in price-cutting and discounting so aggressive that it threatens their profit margins and, in some cases, their very survival.
For example, Sony introduced its HDR-SR11 high-definition digital video recorder in April with a suggested retail price of $1,200. This week, Dell.com was selling it for $899, and the electronics retailer Abe's of Maine had it on its site for $750 -- and both were throwing in free shipping.
At Lori's Designer Shoes, a Web site that sells women's accessories, a brown leather Hype tote bag started at $338, fell to $246 and is now available with a 20 percent discount coupon for $196.80. Lori Andre, the owner, said she generally tried to avoid online promotions "because then you train the customer and they'll expect that, and you're not going to make any money." But last week, traffic hit a wall and sales on the site fell by nearly a quarter. "We've been in business for 25 years, and never seen the bottom drop out like this," she said.
Traditional retailers are facing the same problem, of course, and discounts are proliferating from suburban malls to Fifth Avenue. But the price-cutting is fiercest on the Web, where customers can easily shop for the best price with a quick search on Google or on specialized shopping engines like Shopping.com. Online, the competition is only a click away. For many Web sites, the discounts and price cuts are the only way to hold on to customers as online buying unexpectedly plummets. The research firm comScore reported Tuesday that sales growth on e-commerce sites slowed to a meager 1 percent in October compared with the previous year - the lowest rate ever for online retail and well down from the industry's typical 20 percent gains.
Free shipping is the big perk to look for this holiday. Even Neiman Marcus has been running free shipping at any price deals periodically (just sign up for the email newsletter if you want to be notified of the promotions, which usually last only a day or two).

Wal-Mart Rumored to Offer Magnavox Blu-ray Player for $128 on Black Friday
The most heavily discussed Black Friday deal to date appears to be Wal-Mart's rumored offer of a Magnavox NB500MG9 Blu-ray player for $128. CNN/Money had an article about it and the deal has been mentioned in many blog posts including posts here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here.
Dvice blogs that this is a "damn good Blu-ray player." They note that Consumer Reports recently gave the Magnavox MB500MG9 an 87 in its "Best Electronics" issue.
Get this: Even though it's dirt cheap, the Magnavox MB500MG9 (built by Funai) is a damn good Blu-ray player. In fact, Consumer Reports gave it an overall score of 87 in its latest (December 08) "Best Electronics" issue, a mere one point below the top-rated Sylvania NB500SL9 Blu-ray player (probably the same player, also built by Funai). It beats the sixth-place Sony BDP-350 (which scored an 84), a superb Blu-ray player that's performed flawlessly in our extensive testing here.
The Magnavox MB500MG9 is currently listed on Wal-Mart here for $198 (down from $250). If it really is marked down to $128 on Black Friday that will be a discount of nearly 40% from the already discounted price. This Blu-ray deal alone could be enough to get shoppers into Wal-Mart stores on November 28th.
